Урок английского языка в 10 классе "Аутентичная песня"

Учебный материал,  отобранный для работы на уроке,  даёт возможность совершенствовать следующие навыки: лексико-грамматические, чтения, устной речи, аудирования (в рамках темы «Молодёжные субкультуры. Музыкальные интересы подростков»).

I. Greetings.

II. We have been talking about the young generation for some time already. We have touched upon such aspects,  as the teenage problems,  different youth groupings, the interests of the young generation. What about summing things up?

So, what youth subcultures do you know? Which of them can you find in Tver?

Do you or any of your friends and classmates belong to one of them?

Why do you think there are so many of them and what makes youngsters become their members?

I would really like to know what your choice is. Some teens nowadays reject everything, rebel against social norms, are eager to try all sorts of options. Which of these things would you never do?

Teens belonging to different groups have different musical preferences. I wonder what music you listen to,  who your favourite performers are. What music is popular with the young?

«So many men,  so many minds.»- the proverb is absolutely true, isnot it ? Could you think of another proverb close in meaning?

And here is a task for you to do.  Fill in the gaps,  will you?

Task 1.  Tastes differ

Journalist :And what kind of music do you prefer?

Alan : It (1) ……. . old-fashioned,  I am afraid, but I really prefer classical jazz and blues.

J. : Jazz became a musical phenomenon in the 20th century, (2)…………?

A. :Yes,  this style of music  became a worldwide sensation in the 1st part of the 20th century and (3)………generations. Jazz and blues have very strong (4)………. Of African-American musical traditions.

J. :Who are your favourite performers?

A. :There are many talented musicians and singers,  but for me Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald are the most fabulous.

J. : Do their songs help you to relax?

A. : More than that. Such hits like « Hello Dolly « and his touchingly optimistic «What a wonderful world « (5)……. . you feel like life is really worth living.

J. : How do you feel about pop music?

A. : I am not really (6)………on pop music. For me it is just catchy melodies and silly words.

J. : You are too hard on them,  I am afraid…. .

III. You are representatives of the younger generation,  aren’t you? But living in the society means that there are other people around you. And many of them are much older. Take yourselves and your parents,  for example. How old are they? How well do you know them? Are you alike or different?

I am sure if you compare yourselves and your parents you will find out that you are different in many ways : clothes, appearance, make up,  life principles and values. But does it mean that there really is such a thing as the generation gap problem ? And is there a way to bridge it ? If you ask me I think it is music.

Today I would like you to listen to a song which is one of my favourites. This song is rather old and it has got a story of its own. Would you like to read it? Then do the task,  please; choose

the right phrase to complete the sentence.

Task 2.

Have you ever thought how many times a song can be performed? What would you say …A. .?

Believe it or not,  but it is true.

The next question is: what song is it? Who was it performed by?

I wonder ………B……. .

What is this man famous for? He is an outstanding composer, conductor, a legendary master of vocal music ……………C……. . His musical interests cover……………D. .

But it was his «Don’t worry,  be happy « which conquered………E……. . This song has always been a success with the public.

Maybe the secret lies in its catchy tune,  maybe the secret is in its message.

Some people think the song is brilliant,  while others find it rather strange and difficult to understand.

Bobby once told the interviewer that the song………F……One day walking along Manhattan, he noticed a large poster with a photo of a smiling Indian and the following words :» Don’t worry,  be happy!» Bobby kept on walking  when suddenly …………G…

Twenty years have passed since that day but now and then a lot of people all over the world repeat these surprisingly simple but at the same time………H…… «Don’t worry, be happy!»

IV. And now it’s high time for you to listen to the song. It has got a catchy tune and extremely simple lyrics. While listening fill in the blanks.

Pay attention to some words which could be difficult as they differ from the norm :

You will listen to the recording twice.
